NFL Draft Recap from Rhett Bryan

Titans Radio is somewhat back to normal, after a week of draft coverage and many hours in preparation. I can assure you Mike Keith and I absolutely love the week of the NFL Draft. It is truly the way teams are constructed. Former Houston Oilers GM Mike Holovak used to say that anyone can draft in rounds one and two. The best General Managers find the best talent the middle and late rounds. He’s right, there are more 1st round busts than I can recall or count.

The Titans needed a homerun type draft, although it’s too early to tell, I believe they may have done just that. The titans started with two picks that could change the franchise for many years to come in QB Marcus Mariota and WR Dorial Green-Beckham. By the way its “mar-EE-O-TAH” for future reference.

In round 4, they took Fullback/TE/H-Back Jalston Fowler from Alabama. He did a little bit of everything for Coach Saban and will continue to do so for the Titans. In Round 5, they took RB David Cobb from Minnesota. Who, by the way grew up a HUGE Titans fan. He wore #27 in high school and college. Fowler and Cobb were both taken for the same reason. They are good blockers and will help Mariota in the pocket. Don’t get me wrong they too can run and should help a run game that was non-explosive last year.

The last two Titans selections of Center Andy Gallik of Boston College and WR Tre McBride of William and Mary seem to be the steals of the 2015 draft. Both of whom had a higher grade from Titans Radio’s draft expert Mike Detillier.

The Titans got a lot better on paper in 72 hours, but like many of the other 31 teams, the on field improvements remain to be seen. Overall I believe the Titans got who they wanted, got value, talent and met team needs. Now on to mini camps, OTAs and the calm before the storm…Training Camp.
