OF DREW GILBERT – Rd 1 Pick 28 – Houston Astros
Gilbert is an energetic outfielder who brings a lot of fire and was the heart-and-soul at Tennessee. He is expected to mainly play centerfield professionally. He will enter a very successful Astros’ system that is normally in contention for World Series titles.
OF JORDAN BECK – RD COMP A Pick 38 – Colorado Rockies
Beck is a very powerful hitter that should thrive in the Rockies’ system. When he eventually gets called up to the majors, he will have plenty of success hitting the ball out of Coors field.
P BLADE TIDWELL – RD 2 PICK 52 – NEW YORK METS
Tidwell is a pick that fell right into the Mets’ lap because he probably should have been taken a little higher. He has a very nice arsenal of pitches that contains a slider and curveball mix as well as a really good fastball.
3B TREY LIPSCOMB – RD 3 PICK 84 – WASHINGTON NATIONALS
Lipscomb is a prospect with a very high ceiling that should eventually become an everyday player in the nation’s capital.
P BEN JOYCE – RD 3 PICK 89 – LOS ANGELES ANGELS
If Joyce decides to go to LA and the ANgels are able to retain Trout and Ohtani until Joyce is ready, that could make for a couple of crazy nights at Angel Stadium.
P WILL MABREY – RD 5 PICK 168 – ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS
The southpaw has a chance to climb up the ranks of this organization, and the D-Backs have put together one of the more impressive drafts thus far. They are building for the future.
2B JOREL ORTEGA – RD 6 PICK 174 – MINNESOTA TWINS
Ortega is a solid player with a nice arm and a nice bat. He had more extra base hits than strikeouts this past season.
2B/OF SETH STEPHENSON – RD 7 PICK 207 – DETROIT TIGERS
Stephenson brings a lot of speed to the table, he can play in either the outfield or infield.
P MARK MCLAUGHLIN – RD 7 PICK 221 – CHICAGO WHITE SOX
He has a four pitch arsenal and a career 1.90 ERA, once he gets accustomed to big league ball everything will sharpen up.
SS CORTLAND LAWSON – RD 14 PICK 411 – WASHINGTON NATIONALS
Lawson joins fellow Vols’ infielder Trey Lipscomb in this year’s Nationals’ Draft Class. Lawson is a strong defender and hit 12 home runs for the Vols in 2022.
