Johnathan Cyprien To Speak At Sports Fest 2017!

Get to know our next speaker, newly signed Tennessee Titans safety, Johnathan Cyprien as he will take part of our Planet Fitness Speaker Series at this year’s Sports Fest!

Johnathan Cyprien was born in North Miami Beach, FL and attended North Miami Beach High School where he served as a team captain on the football team and was a first-team all-district player as a senior. After graduating, Cyprien received an athletic scholarship to attend Florida International University (FIU) and played football for the Panthers from 2009-2012. As a true freshman, Cyprien played in all 12 games with 7 starts and was second on the team in tackles (78). He also had 1 interception, 3 passes defended, 2 forced fumbles and was given an all-conference honorable mention selection. In his sophomore season, Cyprien would lead the team in tackles (113) and would also record 1 interception, 6 passes defended, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery and earn second-team all-conference honors. In 2011, Cyprien would start all 13 games and would combine for 81 tackles, 8 passes defended and would earn second-team all-conference honors. As a senior (2012), Cyprien was named a team captain and would lead the team again in tackles (93) and interceptions (4) and earned first-team all-conference honors. Cyprien has been regarded as the best safety to play at FIU and set school records in total tackles (365) and forced fumbles (6).

After college, Cyprien would be invited to the 2013 Senior Bowl and NFL Scouting Combine. In the 2013 NFL Draft, Cyprien was selected with the first pick in the 2nd round (33rd overall) by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

As a rookie, Cyprien would play in 15 games and started all 15 for the Jaguars where he combined for 104 tackles, 1 interception, 6 passes defended, 1 sack, and 2 forced fumbles. In the 2014, Cyprien would again play in 15 games with 15 starts and would combine for 114 tackles and 3 passes defended. In 2015, Cyprien would play and start in 14 games for the Jaguars and would combine for 108 tackles, 1 interception, 2 passes defended and 1 forced fumble. In 2016, Cyprien would combine for a career high 127 tackles, 4 passes defended, 1 sack and 1 forced fumble.

After the 2016 season, Cyprien’s rookie contract ended with the Jaguars and entered free agency. On March 10, 2017, Cyprien signed a four-year, $25 million contract with the Tennessee Titans.
